In October 2025, the SEA-EU Workshop Open Science Capacity Building: Finding solutions in Hamburg brought together Open Science ambassadors from SEA EU Alliance universities, GATE experts, Open Science and legal specialists, and funders.
The hands-on meeting used the Open Science Learning GATE (GATE) knowledge to turn community input into practical steps for training and policy across the alliance, and identified shared priorities for strengthening Open Science and its intersection with AI.
The discussions outlined a roadmap to advance Open Science in institutions and highlighted Lighthouse Projects as a key mechanism showcasing best practices for coordinated Open Science implementation across SEA-EU institutions.
The programme culminated in a dedicated, hybrid dialogue with national and regional funders, designed to align capacity-building priorities and support mechanisms across SEA-EU. The session discussed evidence-informed approaches surfaced via GATE, and explored how funders can back cross-institutional pilots and longer-term, scalable support across Europe.
Why this matters:
- Evidence first: Inputs are collected in advance through GATE to ensure discussions reflect real needs across disciplines and institutions.
- Actionable outcomes: The meeting advances a SEA-EU Capacity-Building Roadmap with concrete, community-owned actions for Open Science.
- Easy to join: The funders’ dialogue is structured for meaningful participation in a hybrid setting, opening the door for funders to participate effectively for 2 hours.
GATE and SEA EU Alliance representatives will support advancing the Lighthouse Projects Initiative.
